I really want to know this.I play a wookie character.I know wookies are intelligent and they like technical things...here is the question : Why their homeworld is not developed ?
Becouse they dont like technology ?

Well, I can see three reasons for the lack of development on their homeworld.

1) Wookies have only been in space a few millennia, and they didn't develop the ability to travel in space but learned it from a single Trandoshan ship that was left behind. (pg 183 UAA)

2) During the Empire's reign, Wookies were all considered slaves, and I am assuming that the Empire knew where to find them. So, the only legal technology at that point would be the Empire's.

3) Wookies live in big trees because there are creatures on the planet that can kill wookies. Now, a wookie is pretty tough with its +4 str modifier and rage. And yet, they live in trees because there are scarier things than them. Thus, building on ground level would be tough due to the potential loss of life for anyone unfortunate enough to be working on a project.

These are just some of my thoughts, feel free to shred or disregard them at your liesure.

what do you mean not developed, why don't they have cities, they do, tree cities, why don't they have star ports, they do, why don't they have computers they do. What is undeveloped about the world?

Living in harmony with the trees you are in, using a natural resources with out destroying it, that doesn't mean you are not developed it just means you don't live in a big glass buildling. You live in a house that is alive but it is still a house, still has modern convinecies, still has computers, etc. It is just fabricated out of something alive, that the wookies grow and shape to suit their needs, with out killing it, knocking it down and building something else.

There is no mention of primitive like the ewoks, they just have a more natural lifestyle but are still as developed as corellia, but they are a differnet society that places honor and tradition on other things, living with the environment instead of clear cutting the planet to build a city.

Kashyyyk is very developed technologically. Just read Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy. They have everything the rest of the galaxy does and they love tinkering with tecnology, or why else would Chewbacca work on the Falcon?:D

Kashyyyk is actually a highly-developed planet that has suffered a few setbacks due to slavery, but, on the whole, is pretty much on a par with the rest of the galaxy.

THe primary difference is that the Wookiees have opted not to go on the urban rampage that consumed Coruscant and turned into a Metroplanitary nightmare.

It's a cultural difference.

Take the Duros, for example - they made technology and urbanization a priority, and it led to a completely contaminated world.

Obviously, the Wookiees would never go for that. Ergo, the prefer a more modest form of urbanization.

Wookies also hold a great deal of reverance and respect for their trees. So, they make every effort to build in harmony with environment.

Take this for what its worth, but...

In Knights of the Old Republic the Wookiees are being used as slaves by the Czerka corporation (keep in mind this is long before the Empire starts using them). When they finally oust the corporate slavers they sort of swear off outsiders.

Now the Wookiees are not dumb or primitive at all. We see this in evidence throughout the Classic Trilogy and even in Episode I when they can be seen as members of the Galactic Senate (look close...they're there). Therefore they can be seen as "developed" both technologically and socially. At the same time, however, they hold outsiders on their homeworld with a bit of distrust and rarely let them visit. I don't know if this fact is consitant with more recent writings, but I do seem to remember that from my WEG days. Combine this with their ultra-conservationism towards the trees that they hold in great reverence, their planet is not likely to become "architecturally" developed on the scale of, say, Coruscant or even Naboo. That is unless the Empire would conquer their world...

Oh...also in SKotOR they mention that the trees of Kashyyyk were seeded by a Builder Race in order to "encourage growth" of native species on that world. Before this race arrived on Kashyyyk the planet was not fit for long term habitation. There are statements that the Wookiees have legends of coming from another place. Again, take that for what its worth...I don't include ALL EU stuff myself...just the stuff I like. :)

Just my two cents worth...

This is actually directly mentioned in the UAA. The wookies are very careful with their tech because they love their world and such. Not the fact that they don't have it.

It was a self emposed limit on tourisim as to not harm the planet that brought them into conflict with the trandosians (( how ever it's spelled)) that caused wars.

The wookies didn't want alot of traffic on thier planet as it would hurt the enviroment and that kept people out of the system so the Lizards started wars and what not.

It's just a personal and cultrual preferance. Not a lack of ambition or tech.
